Mobile Device will not connect via Bluetooth to the UltraGauge Blue Adapter

There are 2 steps in Connecting the UltraGauge Blue App to the Adapter:

1) Pairing the Blue Adapter with the Mobile Device

  • From the Mobile Devices Settings->Bluetooth screen, verify that the UltraGauge Blue Adapter shows up as Paired.
    • Apple: If the Blue Adapter is plugged into the vehicle, and the vehicle is running, the Blue Adapter should show up as "Connected" on the Mobile Devices Settings->Bluetooth screen.

If the above is not true:

    • If the Bluetooth icon on the Blue Adapter is not lit, please view the "How do I pair my Mobile Device with the UltraGauge Blue Adapter?" Knowledge base article.
    • If the Bluetooth icon on the Blue Adapter is lit, check that no other mobile device, in Bluetooth range, is connected to the Blue Adapter.  The Bluetooth icon is lit whenever the Blue Adapter establishes a Bluetooth connection with any device.

2) Connecting the App to the Blue Adapter

Once step 1 has been completed (From the Mobile Devices Settings->Bluetooth screen: For Apple, verify that the Blue Adapter shows up as Connected; For Android, verify that the Blue Adapter shows up as Paired), you can verify that the App has a current Bluetooth connection to the Adapter by going to the Bluetooth Connection Info screen:

  • Apple: Tap on the Gauge Page to bring up the Title bar.  Then select the Bluetooth icon (2nd from the left at the top of the screen.
  • Android: Select the Bluetooth icon from the top of the Gauge Page (2nd from the left at the top of the screen.

From this screen, verify that the UltraGauge Blue Adapter shows up in the Blue box near the top center of the Connection Info Screen.

If no devices show up in the Blue box, please:

      • Unpair the Adapter by going to the Mobile devices Settings->Bluetooth screen and clicking on the info button next to the Blue Adapter name and tell it to forget this device
      • Remove the Adapter from the vehicle, and re-attach it
      • Go through step 1 above to re-pair the Blue Adapter

At this point, we know that the App has received info from your mobile device about a paired Blue Adapter. To determine the connection status, look at the "Status Details" portion of the Connection Info screen. The first row is "Blue Adapter".  This field should will show the Bluetooth Connection status to the Adapter listed in the Blue box above.

  • If this row states "Bluetooth Connected":  The App is able to establish a Bluetooth connection to the Adapter
  • If it does not state "Bluetooth Connected", it should state a reason that it was not able to connect.  Reasons it may not connect:
    • Blue Adapter is no longer in Bluetooth range.  Please make sure Mobile device is in the vehicle and Bluetooth is enabled.
    • Another App is currently connected to this Blue Adapter.  Please make sure no other Mobile Devices which have been paired with this Blue Adapter are in Bluetooth range.  If they are, either disable Bluetooth on that device, or move it out of range.  Note: You can verify that this is the problem by viewing the Bluetooth icon on the Blue Adapter.  If it is lit, and your current Mobile Devices Settings->Bluetooth screen does not show that it is currently connected, then this is the problem.
    • Blue Adapter was not able to communicate with your vehicle via OBDII. When the Adapter is connected to your vehicle, with the vehicle running, the first thing it will do is attempt to discover the vehicles OBDII protocol.  If it cannot determine the protocol, it will NOT enable Bluetooth.  You can determine this is the problem by viewing the vehicle icon on the Adapter.  If it is blinking roughly once per second, then the Blue Adapter WAS able to determine the protocol and this is not the problem.
    • Vehicle is not running.  Please make sure vehicle is running with Blue Adapter installed.

Note: If things are working properly, with the vehicle running, the Battery icon on the Blue Adapter should be lit solid, and the vehicle icon should be blinking at about once per second.
