How does it basically work?

The UltraGauge Blue OBDII Adapter plugs into your vehicle's OBDII connector. The Adapter scans & discovers the vehicle and its available parameters and then begins requesting data from the vehicle's computer. With the UltraGauge Blue Mobile Application, any Android or Apple mobile device can connect to the OBDII Adapter and display any available vehicle parameter of interest

Install the App?

The instructions to download the mobile application are printed on the product box.
The UltraGauge Blue Mobile Application can not be directly found on Apple iTunes or the Google Playstore.
In order to provide the best possible support, the distribution of the Application is limited to those receiving UltraGauge Blue.
Soon the App will be available to all through iTunes and Playstore.

Is UltraGauge Blue Compatible with my vehicle?

In general, if your vehicle was sold in the USA on or after 1996, then your vehicle is compatible. However, please see our compatibility page for more details: UltraGauge Blue Supported Vehicles

Please note that vehicles sold outside the USA may or may not be compatible. Please click the above Compatibility link for additional details.

Which gauges will be available for my vehicle?

UltraGauge Blue can access both Standardized OBDII parameters and Manufacturer's hidden parameters. Vehicles typically support from 30-80 standardized parameters.  The number supported is 100% vehicle dependent and varies with year, make, model and engine size.  Manufacturer parameters may or may not be available for your specific vehicle.  Availability is Manufacturer and vehicle dependent, and independent of UltraGauge Blue.

More on Gauges: UltraGauge Blue Gauges

There is no definitive means to know which standardized gauges will be available for your vehicle short of attaching UltraGauge Blue and letting UltraGauge Blue discovery the available gauges.  To help alleviate this issue, a Gauge Availability Estimator is available.  There have been some 40,000+ different combinations of year, make, model and engine sizes since 1996 and as such, the Estimator will likely never be fully comprehensive and is an ever expanding work in progress.  If your vehicle is not listed, look for like years & models, with the same engine

The Estimator is the output from our database.  We have no additional information about your vehicle and its supported gauges beyond what is presented by the Estimator.

Will the UltraGauge Blue OBDII Adapter work with other apps?

The UltraGauge Blue OBDII adapter and UltraGauge Blue Mobile Application are purpose built. They were designed to provide utmost compatibility, reliability and performance. To achieve this, a much more modern architecture was required. As a result, neither the application nor the adapter will function with other adapters or applications.

How is UltraGauge mounted?

UltraGauge Blue is simply attached to the vehicle's OBDII connector. No additional mounting is required.

The mobile device can be mounted in the vehicle with a wide selection of mobile device mounting accessories found on Amazon and other outlets.  Soon an optional windshield mount will be available through UltraGauge which is ideal for most smartphones.

Is UltraGauge Blue available in retail stores?

In order to keep UltraGauge Blue affordable to all, UltraGauge Blue is only offered factory direct via the Ultra-gauge.com web site.

How quickly does UltraGauge update gauges

The rate at which UltraGauge updates all gauges displayed is configurable from 0.3 to 2.0 seconds, with a default of 1 second.   So in one minute, it has updated each gauge 60 times. Even though UltraGauge updates relatively quickly, it may not be suited for applications that need a fast continuous real-time display, such as racing applications.

Does it need Batteries?

No.  UltraGauge Blue draws power through the OBDII connector directly from the vehicle.

Will UltraGauge Blue work with Hybrids?

Yes.  However, the number of available gauges is vehicle dependent.   See our UltraGauge Blue Supported Vehicles page for more information

Will UltraGauge Blue alter my vehicle's computer?

Never.  UltraGauge Blue simply requests information from the vehicle's onboard computer via the OBDII port.  The only instance in which UltraGauge Blue could be thought of as altering the computer is when the Check Engine light is set to off.  However, this is a request made by UltraGauge Blue to the computer, the computer retains absolute control and either grants or denies the request from UltraGauge Blue.

Does it work with Diesels?

Yes, as long as your vehicle's emission decal is marked as "OBDII Certified" or "OBDII Compliant".
Note: It is imperative that the fuel calibration procedure be performed for all diesel vehicles.

Where is UltraGauge Blue Made?

UltraGauge Blue was designed and developed in the USA by Ultra-Gauge.com.
UltraGauge.com is a US company that exclusively manufactures and sells UltraGauge Blue.
UltraGauge Blue is assembled in China.

Does it work on Motorcycles?

Yes, some of the newer fuel injection motorcycles have an OBDII certified interface.  Look for an emission decal with "OBDII certified" text.  It is very unlikely that carbureted motorcycles will be OBDII compliant.

Please note that UltraGauge Blue is not weather proof and should not be exposed to rain.

What do you call UltraGauge?

UltraGauge is often categorized and called different things.  We refer to UltraGauge as an Automotive Information center and scantool. It is common to just refer to UltraGauge as a "Scantool", but this is not accurate because a Scantool is meant as a diagnostic tool which gathers trouble codes and other diagnostic information.  While UltraGauge does provide the scantool functionality, it provides a much broader real time suite of gauges not found in scantools (AKA code readers).  While Scantools are meant to be attached, information gathered, and then unplugged, UltraGauge is designed to be permanently attached providing real-time vehicle information.

Commonly used phares for UltraGauge are:

OBDII scanner
OBDII code reader
OBDII scantool
OBDII reader
OBDII gauge
OBDII Bluetooth
OBDII iPHone
OBDII Android
OBDII MPG gauge

Where OBDII also has the following variations:  obd, obdii, obd ii, obd2, obd 2, OBD2

OBD versus OBDII

In 1996 it became federally mandated in the USA that all passenger vehicles include an OBDII interface.  Prior to this there was an earlier version known as OBD.  UltraGauge only supports OBDII
